What it is about…
Youth choir 'Alias' is composed of students and graduates with hearing impairments and hearing students from the Riga Rainis Evening School in Latvia. Together they perform concerts, musicals, do activities based on music, do recitations to music, and include elements of drama and pantomime. With their teachers they create a new form of artistic expression where each musical phrase is followed synchronously by emotional recital to music in sign language. From this comes untraditional interpretations of pieces and performances combining spoken and sign languages, although the real interaction takes place through rhythm, dance, movement, music, and jugglery.
This event is also being performed on October 26 at 7:00 PM at Montgomery College (Open to the Public), October 27 at 11:00 AM at Children's National Hospital (Open to the Public), and October 30 at 6:00 PM at Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage (Open to the Public).
