Please join Microsoft and the Delegation of the European Union to the U.S. for a conversation on the future of EU electricity markets. The discussion will bring together stakeholders from industry, government and civil society to discuss current European energy market issues, the role of corporate energy purchasers, and the outlook for the EU Clean Energy Package.
European electricity markets continue to undergo rapid changes due to shifts in technology, energy consumption patterns, market participation models, and policy goals. With the EU Clean Energy Package under review in Brussels and EU Member States, 2018 has the potential to be a momentous year for Europe’s clean energy transition. In February 2018, discussions between the European Commission, Council of the EU and European Parliament started on the EU Renewable Energy Directive. Over the next months, the same will take place for the Electricity Market Design Directive, and other proposals. Europe has a unique opportunity to refresh policies in a way that keeps pace with an evolving energy market, helps the EU achieve ambitious long-term climate and economic goals and encourages more companies, including large purchasers of renewable energy, to take part and invest in Europe’s energy.
