Eurogroup President Mário Centeno on the EU's Window for Economic Reform
Watch live here.
Please join the Atlantic Council's EuroGrowth Initiative on Thursday, April 19th, at the Atlantic Council's headquarters in Washington, DC for keynote remarks by the new President of the Eurogroup Mário Centeno. In his first speech in the United States as Eurogroup President, Mr. Centeno will outline his vision for the future of the EU’s Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
As the de-facto finance chief of the Eurozone, Mr. Centeno has the important task of steering the reform process to deepen EU economic integration. Key reform items include the completion of the Banking Union and the development of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). For the first time since the economic crisis, all EU economies have returned to positive economic growth. This provides Mr. Centeno and his fellow EU finance ministers with a window of opportunity to increase the EU's economic resilience and create the conditions for inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Europe.
Mr. Centeno also serves as the Minister of Finance of Portugal and the Chair of the European Stability Mechanism’s Board of Governors.
A light lunch will be served at the event.
