Documentary Film Screening: The European

Opening remarks by

- Gerton van den Akker, Chief of Staff, Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations
- Dolph Hogewoning, Consul General of the Netherlands

Presentation by film director Dirk Jan Roeleven

Screening followed by reception

Filmmaker Dirk Jan Roeleven followed Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission, for nearly two years, from his appointment in Brussels to the Brexit referendum. The film, which has been selected for the 2016 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), shows Timmermans at work “behind the scenes and up-close” in EU negotiations, international meetings, and fieldwork in refugee camps.

Co-sponsored by The European Institute, The Maison Française, The Program of Studies of the Dutch-Speaking World, The Columbia European Union Students Association (CEUSA), The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Dutch Culture USA.

This event is made possible thanks to the support of the European Union’s “Getting To Know Europe” Program.
