Film Screening: Heidi

As part of the FilmNeu festival, a screening of the movie Heidi will take place. The movie received the German Film Award - Best Children's Film 2016.

Originally written as the two-volume Heidi, the Girl from the Alps by the Swiss author Johanna Spyri, and published in 1879/1880, Heidi became the most popular piece of Swiss literature ever written, with more than 50 million copies being sold worldwide. After charming her reclusive grandfather and falling in love with the beautiful mountain he calls home, Heidi is uprooted and sent to Frankfurt where she befriends Klara, a young girl confined to a wheelchair. Numerous film adaptations have been made, including this newest one, directed by Zurich-born director Alain Gsponer, a live-action feature about the young Heidi growing up in the Alps with her grandfather, played by Bruno Ganz of Downfall fame. This classical feel-good feature has generated impressive box-office numbers not only in Germany and Switzerland, but abroad as well.
