What it is about…
Everywhere around us, we are surrounded by transformations. Plants, animals, and people change, just like cities, rivers, and mountains. Some transformations happen on their own, whether we like it or not. A caterpillar changes into a butterfly – but how? How does transformation work? Where has it gone, once it has been transformed? Is the thing that once was there now underneath, inside, or is it gone for good? We humans, too, continue to change our whole lives long. We grow, we lose our teeth, we get wrinkles. Our feelings and our nature, too, are constantly changing. That’s sometimes relieving, sometimes unsettling. How do we know which path to choose? And do we take it together? Other changes we make ourselves. Theater offers an abundance of opportunities to explore transformations. We hide, add, rearrange, rename… and, as we play, time and again, we change the form and function of spaces and things. A skirt can become a blossom; a bag can become a dog; a scarf, a place to hide; or a rope can become a sea or a river. And if we follow such a river, where does it then lead us? New transformations always become possible in our imaginations, giving rise to surprising images and associations. When we ourselves are transformed, we can grasp changes, explore new things, and get to know the unfamiliar. In a probing effort, we want to use clothing and fabrics, movements and sounds to explore the various facets of transformation.
This is the first GRIPS researcher theater production with TUKI Bühne, which is based on extensive research with children in day care.
