Climate change is showing up at our doorstep in the US, with unprecedented fires in Oregon and California and floods in the mid-West. But in small islands around the world, its devastating effects have been felt for decades. With limited material and financial resources, islands must find new ways of fighting back. What can we learn from their examples? Can international cooperation pave the way forward? This event will begin with a short 15 minute screening of “Kokota, the Islet of Hope”, a story of resilience and solidarity among the islands of Kokota and Pemba in East Africa. Following the screening we will hear from experts across the globe. The film’s producer Zach Melanson will join us alongside EU Ambassador to Tanzania Manfredo Fanti, and Executive Director of Hawaii Green Growth and former White House advisor Celeste Connors. The discussion will be moderated from Washington, D.C. by Mercedes Perez Garcia, Head of Global Issues and Innovation at the EU Delegation to the United States.
