Following a tumultuous year for global trade, 2019 promises to bring its own set of challenges and opportunities. As we ring in the new year, we invite you to join the Atlantic Council and the Delegation of the European Union to the United States for a public address by European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on the topic of “Trade Trends 2019”, followed by a discussion moderated by Bart Oosterveld, the Atlantic Council’s C. Boyden Gray Fellow and Director of its Global Business and Economics Program.
Commissioner Cecilia Malmström will present the European Union’s trade priorities and agenda for 2019, including prospects for the transatlantic trade relationship. In the context of a trilateral meeting with her U.S. and Japanese counterparts on January 9, she will discuss opportunities for WTO reform, rising threats to the multilateral global trading system, and the need for a strong defense of global value chains.
