Antimicrobial resistance – the ability of microorganisms to resist antimicrobial treatments, especially antibiotics – has a direct impact on human and animal health. In the European Union alone, AMR is responsible for an estimated 33,000 deaths and $1.75 billion in health care costs each year.

To combat AMR the European Union has adopted a range of new measures including increased investments in antimicrobials, improving awareness of antimicrobial resistance by healthcare professionals and citizens alike, and working to cut overall sales of antimicrobials for farmed animals and aquaculture in half by 2030.

Join the European Union and the Infectious Disease Society of America as we examine priorities of the global antimicrobial resistance agenda. Hear from the top infectious disease officials in Europe and the United States and leading doctors on the frontline of tackling this challenge as we discuss how we can advance medical research to get in front of this threat.
