Bios
Jyrki Katainen currently serves as the European Commission Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness. In his work, Mr. Katainen is focused on strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, delivering a “jobs, growth and investment package” of around €300 billion in additional public and private investment over three years.
Mr. Katainen is responsible for coordinating the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 strategy, Europe's economic growth strategy. While coordinating structural reforms in EU countries, he ensures that the European Union's economic policy coordination is successful and takes account of the social impacts of reforms. His overall responsibility is to help improve the business environment to make Europe a more attractive place in which to work and invest.
Commission Vice President Katainen previously served as Prime Minister of Finland from 2011 to 2014.
